It may seem daunting at first, however, it is not only possible but you can even get started easily for free! Affiliate Marketing Affiliate Marketing may seem like a scary word for a lot of people, but it shouldn’t be. In fact, affiliate marketing is the ability for you, as the affiliate, to promote millions of products and services, anywhere in the world, through affiliate programs. This is the sign you've been looking for neon signage An affiliate program basically utilises a tracking technology that tracks where the lead is coming from via unique affiliate links so that the affiliate program can pay you for driving the traffic towards a possible sale/conversion. As an affiliate, your goal is to drive traffic to these vendors’ websites (i.e. shopping sites such as Amazon) and if someone buys something, you earn a commission (it can vary between 1% – 75%+ of the sale depending on the affiliate program). There are thousands of people making a full income affiliate marketers online and you can too! What do I need to start affiliate marketing? You’ll need a few “tools” to start affiliate marketing. One of them, and the most important of all, is a website. Secondly, you’ll need to learn how to drive traffic to your website & subsequently drive traffic to another website via your affiliate link. How much would it cost to start a website? There are a few things you need to start a website: Register a domain Register for site hosting Build the website with themes & plugins Let’s break down the cost, shall we? Domain registration via Bluehost Domain typically costs between $10 – 25 for a year, depending on promotional offers. Even if you get a good deal, the price is only valid for a year and the price jumps after the 1st year. Hosting typically costs anywhere between $3 to hundreds of dollars, depending on the type of hosting. It’s easy to be enticed by offers such as below from Bluehost but there are a lot of affiliates promoting Bluehost without really knowing what it means. Site hosting that you get for cheap is typically known as shared hosting. That means you are sharing a server with hundreds or perhaps thousands of people. What that means is that you will experience these things: slow website, server crashes if you or one of your neighbours use a lot of that bandwidth and worst of all …. malware & viruses. Bluehost promotional offer While a shared hosting account helps people get started for a cheap price, but trust me, I’ve gone down this road before. My site was getting 30,000 unique visitors per month, and it went down to 1,000 uniques per month when the server crashed and infected with malware. A shared hosting account also means that the host does not provide any technical support. Yeap, you’re on your own. I had to reinstall my whole website, and by the time the whole fiasco was over, Google penalised me heavily. Google also could not find my website for a couple of months, hence, my search engine rankings tanked and I had to start building my traffic from scratch again. I kept getting infected by malware that I finally decided to move to a managed hosting service (more on this below). So… nope, no more shared hosting for me. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation or sometimes known as “Search Engine Marketing”. What keyword research does for you is it gives your information on the search volume per month, the competition (other sites) targeting the same keywords and the likelihood for you to rank (SEO score). Essentially, if you practice the right SEO methods, you’ll be able to rank high (first page) in Google search results. As you keep building your content & target more keywords, this effort snowballs into recurring organic traffic that will keep generating affiliate income for you! Of course, there are other things that need to be done including installing certain plugins & using certain tools to help you beat the rest of the competition.
